Dr Idham Badruzaman is a scholar of international relations, peacebuilding, and conflict transformation whose work centres on the role of local actors, knowledge, memory, and participation in building sustainable peace. He is affiliated with the Department of International Relations at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and has been an active member of the Global DEEP Network since 2015.
His research brings international peacebuilding debates into conversation with locally grounded experiences. Across his work on Indonesia and other international contexts, he examines how communities interpret conflict, rebuild relationships, preserve collective memory, and shape forms of reconciliation that extend beyond formal agreements and externally designed interventions.
Dr Badruzaman’s doctoral research examined local conflict transformation and reconciliation in Aceh, Ambon, and Sampit. It documented how local actors, cultural relationships, community assemblies, and locally recognised values contributed to rebuilding social relations following separatist, religious, and ethnic conflicts. This focus closely aligns with DEEP EnGender’s commitment to community-led change, pluralism, gender justice, and peace grounded in local realities.
He contributes perspectives on how identity, collective memory, historical experience, and unequal power relations shape peace processes. His advice helps DEEP EnGender critically assess its research and programme directions while strengthening connections with relevant academic and civil society networks.
